The Sailex will begin from Dunstaffnage Marina which is situated just 3 miles from the centre of Oban. Many members will plan a journey to arrive in Scotland on Friday to explore Oban and sample the excellent seafood before organising provisions and boarding the yacht after 15:00 hours on Saturday.
Heading up The Sound of Mull, at the northern end, lies Tobermory some 27 miles from Dunstaffnage Marina. The town is usually a hive of activity and is famous for its colourful frontage and stories of Spanish Galleons that sank in the bay in 1588.
We plan to be adventurous and enjoy a passage towards Skye going via Rhum (population about 30) and visit historic Kinloch Castle or via Canna (population about 20) which has only just been connected to mains electricity. The island of Eigg, which was recently purchased by a crofters’ co-operative, is another possible stopping off place en route to Skye.
There are many choices to sail and enjoy the most breath-taking seascapes. On the southern side of Skye, Loch Na Cuise a challenging entry but worth it. The impressive Culling rise directly from the Loch. On the mainland Loch Nevis, Inverie. A village only accessible by boat or a two day walk. The hills, mountains, islands, lochs and inlets take on a magical appearance when viewed from the sea. The myriads of legends and mystique surrounding these parts, the relaxed informal way of life of the locals, the bustling pubs with the occasional impromptu ceilidh, the remote isolated communities, the spectacular wildlife including dolphins, porpoises, seals, whales, rare species of birds or the ancient archaeological remains all add to the attraction.
Two yachts were chartered as we disembarked the 2025 sailex, a really good plan as the yacht charters in Scotland for 2026 have exceeded expectations. We promoted berths to members that previously sailed with TOG in Scotland and opened up bookings to the full membership. As of November 2025 we are now fully booked, but this Sailex continues to attract interest. TOG have the opportunity to add a third yacht but we will require six members to sign up via the 2026 booking link above before we can commit to a third charter. Berth fees for this week in Scotland have been held at £675
